Spoke to a Bloke
About us

Our story

Three mates who decided they could do more. This is how Spoke to a Bloke started.

01

This is for Nick.

Nick, whose story started Spoke to a Bloke

Spoke to a Bloke started when our brother and mate sadly took his own life whilst going through some mental health issues. Unfortunately he felt he had no other option and much to our shock and disappointment, no one to talk to.

Nick organised an annual walk, just mates, moving, talking, checking in. He called it a walk. We called it the best part of the year.

How it started

Before Nick passed he would organise an annual 25k men's mental health walk (we used the term lightly in the beginning) from The Spit Bridge in Manly, to The Watsons Bay Hotel. Originally it was just a chance for mates to get together, do some exercise but also check in with each other over a long walk followed by a few beverages. Our first walk was 4 guys in 2019, followed by 6 in 2020 and then a whopping 110 blokes from all around Australia in 2022.

The launch

On average blokes account for seven out of nine suicides every single day in Australia.

“In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity."

From the first Annual “Nick's Walk” in 2022 we thought we could do more to support men's mental health. Much more. So we did. We started Spoke to a Bloke.

The founders

Scott, Paul and Matt. That's us.

Over 30 years of being brothers, mates, and now brothers-in-law. And wow, we've lived a lot of life together. We've travelled the world. We've celebrated wins. We've faced setbacks. We've laughed hard, fought hard, and at times, cried hard. Like most blokes, we've had moments that tested us and we've learned that having the right people around you makes all the difference.

We don't claim to be experts. We're just three men who care deeply about the wellbeing of other men. That's why we're proud to have started Spoke to a Bloke and support the movement to get men talking. Because sometimes one honest conversation can help a head, change a path, or even save a life.

Join us. Start a conversation. Check in on your mates. You never know the impact a simple “How are you really going?” can have.
